Hi ,

I have a scenario, where the doctor provides consultation for a patient with cardiac condition (day1). The next day he provides subsequent hosital care(day 2), later he was transferred to other hospital (day3) for cardiac catheterization. If the same doctor provides consultation service to the patient in the other hospital too, what will be the E/M service to be reported?

Can anyone help me understanding this case

Thanks,
Joe

This is the same admit just a different facility, correct?

This would just be another subsequent care day based on CMS guidelines. Only one consult per provider(same group/same specialty) per admission.

Now, if it was a separate admit, it could be another consult. The key here though is intent. They can be called in to co-manage or completely manage a condition and the first visit is not a consult, it is just a subsequent care day.
