I have a new sports medicine doctor that is going to be traveling between the offices. I was wondering if his first visits could be billed as consults or if I should go with new patient. I don't have any examples yet, trying to do some ground work first. Any ideas???

consult vs new pt

A consult is a type of E&M service provided by physician at the "request of another physician or appropriate source to recommend care for a specific condition or problem"

Read the CPT guidelines for the Consult vs. New/Est Pt. and that should help you make that decision. And remember consults are not accepted by all payers.

:)

Have a great day!
