Hi, just looking for opinions for question:
Physician is requested to do a consult to evaluate for "need for
dialysis access". He provides the consult and makes decision for surgery.

Would you use for a primary diagnosis v72.83 (pre-op) or 585.6 (esrd)??
 
Not Pre-Op

I would code the underlying reason for the consult.

It the physician was being asked to provide the access for dialysis, he was not being consulted, and his evaluation of the patient prior to the procedure is part of the global package for the procedure.
