This continues to be a "gray" area for me. I bill for Hospitalists services in the hospital - professional services. A patient is admitted under "observation" by the surgeon. The surgeon requests a consult from the Hospitalist for management of DM, etc.. Please give me both scenarios for both a Medicare patient and a commercial patient (one that does accept consult codes) on how to bill for the Hospitalists consult. :confused:

The second part of this question is for a patient that was admitted under "day surgery". Is this coded the same way as the above scenario??

I have a mental block with these and can't get a grip on them.
