I am trying to find information about contra lateral mastectomies and if Medicare allows it. I can only find information stating that Medicare allows for the reconstruction after a mastectomy.
 
Yes, CMS does cover prophylactic mastectomy. There is a law in place from the Clinton era that mandates that women are allowed to make both breasts look the same.
 
I read where that applies to the reconstruction, but does it apply to the mastectomy surgery if only one breast is affected but they take both?
