One of our providers thinks that posting the copayments to an old date of service, other than the time of service, is insurance fraud. I understand that it is not insurance fraud; It is not prohibited by our contracts that we have to post the copayments to the time of service, only that we collect the copayments, and this is a business decision on behalf of any practice where to post copayments. Does anyone have a take on this subject?

RE: Copayments

No you are not commenting insurance fraud. That is money that is owed to your practice, and for pruposes of keeping A/R down you should apply the money to the oldest copay. I know because our practice is going through that samething, and this why I have implamented that copays are due on the DOS no expections.
