Hi, How would you code a COPD patient being admitted to the hospital for an acute exacerbation of asthma? I am torn between
J441, J45901 and J449, J45901

any input would be greatly appreciated!
 
Great question! The index for asthma w/chronic obstructive pulmonary disease w/exacrbation (acute) takes us to J44.1. The Tabular list says to indicate type of asthma so J45.901 would be coded as well. Hope that helps!
