COPD with asthma

there are different opinions on COPD with asthma. whenever these combined codes appear I usually code only COPD as asthma is included in COPD. There is also a note under J44 series stating asthma with COPD, but code also type of asthma if applicable. if is select unspecified type of asthma with COPD it leads to two codes J44.9 and J45.909.

please suggest should i code both or just COPD?

Need to code both COPD and Asthma J44.9 and J45.909 . Asthma is not included in COPD.

Asthma is one of the disease of the (C) Chronic (O) Obstructive (P) pulmonary (D) Disease, which includes Chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and asthma. To specify which COPD condition is present is mandated to code both the COPD and also Asthma
