Correct billing of path results and OV

Hello,

we have a new dermatologist in our multi-specialty practice. A question was posed regarding billing for the office visit while waiting for the path results to come back. If the patient was seen on a monday and an office visit and excision of lesion was performed. The path doesn't come back until wednesday. Does the specific procedure get billed the day the path is returned or the day the procedure was actually performed?

This was confusing because the office visit was definitely warranted and therefore a 25 modifier would need to be appended. Or do you bill the OV for monday and then the lesion removal the day it gets interpreted.

You hold everything and wait for the path report, the date is the date it was performed.

I hold off on creating the claim until the Path is back, then the Dx/result is entered into the note and claim created then submitted to the insurance.

You do not need to wait for the results to be put in the progress note a physician or outpatient may code from the report results.
