76770/76857?? Order: US KIDNEYS AND URINARY TRACT

INDICATION: History of UTI

TECHNIQUE: Multiple transverse and longitudinal images were obtained through the kidneys.

FINDINGS: The kidneys are normal in size, contour and echogenicity. The right kidney measures 7.9 x 3.1 x 3.3 cm. The left kidney measures 7.9 x 3.5 x 3.2 cm. The aortic bifurcation with the iliac arteries are grossly unremarkable. there is no evidence of hydronephrosis. There is no solid or cystic mass. Imaging of the bladder demonstrates a prevoid bladder volume of 476 cc and a postvoid volume of 11 cc. No bladder mass is seen.

IMPRESSION: Unremarkable renal and bladder ultrasound.

According to the CPT book, CPT 76857 should be utilized if the urinary bladder alone (ie, not including the kidneys) is imaged. CPT 76700 consists of real time scans of, among other things, the kidneys. Therefore, based on your case/scenario, CPT 76700 would be the correct code.
