Can someone provide where there is documentation to show what the correct date of service is when billing for the professional component of the pathologist? Is the correct date of the service the collected date or the date that they are doing the dictation? Thanks for any help.

They attempted to standardize it nationally with CMS in September 2017 as date of interpretation, but rescinded it.

It is now up to the individual Medicare Contractors. Some have clearly published policies, others like Noridian do not.

Some allow date the specimen was obtained
Others require it to be date of interpretation.

This makes global billing problematic if the DOS are different for each component.
