Wiki Correct OB surgery date!

We are needing input, we have an OB patient in labor, failed to progress, physcian decides to do a c-section, just before midnight, 04/19/10. The baby is born after midnight, dob is 04/20/10. When billing for the surgery, what date is used? The 04/19/10 or 04/20/10? Date on op note is 04/19/10, baby's dob is 04/20/10.

We are split in our decision making, we see the rational of either dates, just needing the input of other coders.

I code the date of the actually delivery. Think of it this way, a patient can be admitted 2 days before delivery, would you code the 18th when the baby was delivered on the 20th?
