Hello,

My question is regarding a physician doing preventive counseling through a family member, with the patient not present. Contrary to the CPT description of the 99201-99215 E&M series, the description for preventive counseling codes 99401-99404 does not include physician time with the patient's family. Can the 99401 code be used for a counseling visit between only the doctor and patient's mother, for example?
