This is about a Call Group situation where several doctors in the community cover for one another. Dr. A is away for the evening, Dr. B is covering. Dr. B gets called to hospital to see a patient of Dr. A. Dr. B determines admission is required and writes orders but documents brief description and orders - does not bill. Dr. A returns the next day and documents H&P and bills for the admission. Is this scenario legit? I see CMS guidelines about reciprocal billing. However, that does not necessarily address this hospital scenario as I describe...or does it? Does anyone else have any resources that tell me this can or canNOT be done? Dr. B is not billing out anything but is doing quite a bit of work. Thoughts to this would be welcomed. Thank you so much.
