I am an outpatient coder with an ED coding question.
This patient came in to our Emergency Dept. for palpitations and was final diagnosed with atrial fib. The ED physician documented that the patient tested COVID positive a month ago but no labs or testing done on this visit.
There is some mention in the H&P of the Afib being an onset of COVID from a month before.
Is there any guidance to what coding I would use for this scenario after the fact? I am being instructed to use Z86.19- Personal history of other infectious and parasitic diseases along with Z09, encounter for follow up examination after completed treatment for conditions other than malignant neoplasm. The Z09 code does not seem appropriate in this case because the patient did not come into the ED for this purpose.
