I have attached my resume, any pointers are greatly appreciated. I have been looking for a job for quite a few weeks now. Unfortunately there aren't many opportunities where I live, so obviously I am looking for remote. I am absolutely willing to commute if there is anything in within an hour from me. I'm at a loss of what to do to achieve my goal, any advice is appreciated.

Check out the AAPC Facebook page for postings about openings for CPC-As! Also, check out Judge Group and other contracting companies that hire CPC-As. Keep searching and never give up.

Are you looking in Kentucky or New York? (I see from your resume that you may have relocated recently, but I wasn't sure which area was the current one vs the one you moved away from.)

Either way, I'd suggest keeping up with what's going on in the local chapter - they may be sharing information about local job opportunities. You can filter local chapters by state and find the one closest to you here: https://www.aapc.com/localchapters/find-local-chapter.aspx

I'm not super familiar with Long Island geography, but if you're still in New York I'm thinking that Selden would potentially be the closest chapter to you. And if that's the case, I know someone who's very actively involved in AAPC (and this forum!) in Selden who might have some insight for you.

If you're going to be looking in Kentucky, I think there are several local chapters in proximity to Elizabethtown, so definitely watch out for any job openings those local chapters share. Although I'm not located in Kentucky, I feel like I've seen opportunities pop up with the University of Kentucky Healthcare occasionally. Someone local to Kentucky would probably be better able to give you insight on the hiring process there.

Best of luck to you!

Oh, and keep an eye out for Veterans Administration job postings. Those are listed on the USA Jobs website, and the title to search under is “Medical Records Technician (My understanding is that’s the VA’s designation for coding roles, even though it doesn’t say “medical coder”).

The VA does hire CPC-As. In fact, there used to be someone in the Entry-Level Medical Coders Facebook group who would give advice to job seekers on the VA hiring process. You might try searching in that group to see if any of those tips or discussions are still available.
