Dr. Dominick Tammaro

Brown University School of Medicine

222 Richmond Street

Providence, RI 02903

Dear Dr. Tammaro:

As a professional with ten years' experience in clinical research, I am writing to express my interest in obtaining a position at Brown University School of Medicine starting December 2025. My background covers academics. teaching, clinical, and research experience.

I recently was a research analyst for Steps4Life. The research project involved studying the cardiovascular cost benefits of exercise. I developed a CSV File Conversion method whcan be used to analyze the data.

I earned my M.D. from Emory University followed by one year of medical training at Yale University and Brown University. After that I decided to pursue research that better served my aptitude and interest. I completed a Ph.D. in clinical science in ophthalmology from Karolinska Institute! in Stockholm, Sweden. During the project. I developed a pioneering method for Ascorbate measurement in lens tissue samples, utilizing homogenization in metaphosphoric acid, ultrafiltration, and high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection. I plan to obtain the grant for Pharmacodynamics of ascorbate in the ocular lens as part of a human clinical trial. The method can in addition be applied to other tissues, cardiac, skeletal muscle, blood, lungs, and kidney. The work that I performed at Karolinska Institute was pre-clinical research in a guinea pig cataract in vivo model. I hold the certification Licentiate degree. You will find my academic and research experience potentially to be an asset to Brown University School of Medicine.

At Brown University/lifespan in Department of Surgery I studied arginase activity in mouse peritoneal macrophages in a surgical model of wound healing. The work is related to the surgical field in basic science.

Basic science research required for the beginning of pre-clinical research was studied at Vanderbilt University. At Vanderbilt University, I spent one year doing an honors Molecular biology research project on the mitochondrial mega channel. I found after experimenting with cyclosporin A binding to the mitochondrial mega channel and by utilizing cellulose filtration that the mitochondrial mega channel is made up of more than one subunit. The mitochondrial mega channel’s activity was determined and reproduced after separating the subunits and reconstituting the subunits.

The significance of the results was that mitochondria play a critical role in cardiac reperfusion injury. I earned High honors in molecular biology for the one-year honors project. I am interested in experimental models for vision research on in vivo experimental procedures on animals. The research interest correlates with my work from Karolinska Institutet on anesthesiology of guinea pigs. I feel that I will be of high value to Brown University School of Medicine.
