I wanted to know, is the CPC-H exam easier than the CPC exam for someone who has worked in a hospital. I know that they CPC is based on physician office coding, however I work in a hospital and want to know if I have a better chance at passing the CPC-H exam.

I worked hospital outpatient and found the CPC-H to be easy in that it was very relevant to outpatient coding. Another coder in our department took the CPC and did not do so well.

I am both a CPC and CPC-H, but took the CPC-H exam first. I tool the exam as soon as I completed the Individual Study Course that the AAPC offered in 2004. When I took the exam, I had only done sporadic coding. I took the CPC exam a year later and found it to be much harder. I passed both tests the first time - thank goodness! The only suggestion I can make for taking the exam is to get good rest and go with your first instinctive answer. Do not read into the question - they can try and trick you - take the questions at face value :)
