I am fairly new to Plastic Surgery Coding. I have attended two ASPS coding seminar workshops. I tend to struggle when secondary breast procedures are performed for implant exchanges. I understand cpt 19340 is utilized for "immediate" implant placement at the time of a mastectomy,but it is also referred to as an implant exchange code. I understand cpt 19342 is utilized for "delayed" reconstruction at a later date than the mastectomy. However, it also can be used for an R&R of an implant with "capsular modification". I am unclear as to what exactly "capsular modification" is considered. I cannot find any CCI edits for billing cpt 19371 in addition to either 19340 or 19342.
I would appreciate any guidance from experienced coders. If anyone can recommend any desk references that they use on a daily basis that would be wonderful!
