I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on this....
Per the CPT manual, CPT 33400 should NOT be reported with CPT 33864; however, CCI appears to allow this code combination IF modifier -59 is reported. Would the billing of CPT 33864 & CPT 33400-59 be appropriate in the following scenerio: Patient with thoracic aortic aneurysm & aortic insufficiency due to a leaky aortic valve undergoes aneurysm repair with valve-sparing aortic root remodeling & valve suspension AND REPAIR of the native aortic valve? I'm thinking this would be an appropriate situation to code BOTH of these codes despite the CPT manual stating they shouldn't be reported together. Opinions??
