How can you code a laparoscopic cholecystectomy (47562) with an open appendectomy at the same surgical session (different incisions)?
 
First of all, code the most labor intensive procedure first. On page 241 of the 2011 CPT book, under 44905,( incidental appendectomy during intra-abdominal surgery does not usually warrant a separate identification, if necessary add modifier 52.)
Or code 47562, and use add on code 44955 for the appendectomy. Just a guess, hope it helps
 
Thank you. Do you think that 44955 can be used for an appendectomy done through a separate incision ?
