Our physicians care for a significantly higher population of critical children with severe medical conditions. The physicians are wanting to code for the CPT code 76937 when medically necessary for the children in the Intensive Care Units. However, this code is an add on code and for the children under 6 years of age the vascular access codes are bundled in the 24 hour critical care codes. Is there a way to be reimbursed for the added difficulty of vascular access for this population of patients?
