One of our Pathologist had a question as to whether or not to bill 88304 or 88305 for Giant Cell Tumor of Tendon Sheath. In the CPT book it shows 88304 for Tendon/tendon sheath, but the pathologist stated that 88304 didn't sound correct because it was soft tissue and slides were done. What's the correct answer?

Hello sspence,
Giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath warrants CPT assignment 88307.
This is supported from within my APF pathology manual.
I can't share with you the information within the APF manual (copyrighted).
However, it does reference the AMA if you or your pathologists have access to those references. AMA CPT-IS, KB #1398, Oct. 26, 2007.
Thanks,
Dana
