Rabies and/or tetanus shots; have a billing dept that wants to use the therapeutic injection codes for a rabies and/or tetanus shot given in an Urgent Care and/or Emergency Dept. setting, irrespective of the reason the pt. is being administered the substance.
The reason may be that an incident has happened that would warrant either substance or it's time to be current on immunizations. Yes, I have seen each substance given in each of those settings for either reason. Tetanus because it was time to be up-to-date and rabies because the person works at a veterinary clinic. OR a nail was stepped on or a person was scratched by a feral cat.
What say you?
