I was at the hospital for a total of 3 hours for this patient. I did examine him in the emergency room and reviewed his imaging and discussed the pros and cons of intubation, possible tracheostomy. I coordinated care with to anesthesiologist and the emergency room physician. I also arranged to have all of the tracheostomy and pediatric airway instrumentation available and ready. I was in the operating room before during and after his intubation on standby to do a tracheostomy.
I am not sure when the standby time starts and stops but it would have been a minimum of 2-1/2 hours if you take away the first 30 minutes that was spent doing his exam reviewing x-rays etc.
