Wiki CPT for Excision for 5th Metatarsal Base in toto

Can someone please assist. My physician provided me with CPT code 28288 but the operative report states Excision of Hypertrophic fifth metatarsal BASE.

Operative report reads as: Attention was directed to the base of the fifth metatarsal laterally whereby a gentle incision was made with a 15 blade scalpel measuring approximately 2cm in length total. This incision was deepened by way of sharp and blunt dissection with careful retraction of vital structures and tension to ligate superficial vessels. Careful dissection was carried down to the level of the insertion site of the peroneus brevis tendon which was carefully reflected medially and laterally thus preserving the distal insertion site. The hypertrophic fifth metatarsal base was brought into clear view and excised using a sagittal saw. This was removed from the operative site in toto.

Would 28140 be more correct? I can only find information for excision of metatarsal Head, nothing for Base.

28288 is of the met head and this surgery was performed on the met base, so you are correct, that would not be the right code. To code 28140 I would want clarification that a section of the metatarsal was removed, completely resected. If just a portion of hypertrophic bone was removed, I would code 28122 partial excision of bone, metatarsal.
