Wiki Cracked IOL during cataract

Good morning folks,
One of my surgeons performed a cataract surgery the other day and he noticed the IOL was cracked after it was in place in the capsular bag. He immediately removed and replaced it. He wants to code for both the cataract with IOL and removal with replacement of IOL. Should it be included in the cataract surgery since was all during the same session?
Any thoughts??
 
Hello, I am not an expert but here is what i recall - in obgyn forum there was a similar question on IUD placement that got broken and the MD used a new one. The question was if we should code it for extra work/twice etc. and the answer was - not to code for anything extra. So I think the same rational will apply to your case- IOL was cracked during the cataract surgery, so MD used a new IOL= same cataract procedure- simple 66984.
