I have a claim where the MD is requesting to bill for a 35 min. Critial Care Service while the patient is in a Skilled Nursing Facility
Would code 99291 be appropriate?
I would appreciate any advice!!
 
If the documentation supports the criticality of the patient (organ system(s) failure or life threatening deterioration requiring high MDM) with intervention(s) and at least 30 minutes of critical care time not including separately reportable services (31500, 92950, 36556...), 99291 is appropiate. Critical care is not always given in a critical care area.
