I have a question.... can a physician bill for critical care time and also bill for an Echo (all done while in the unit)?

If the physician is billing for critical care time, then this is inclusive of all physician services during that time period and would include the administration or reading of the ECHO. Remember when you are billing for critical care that this is for the time period that the provider spent exclusively on the critical care of that patient and accounts for all services. The purpose is to provide the value of the physician time spent on the patient without having to "line item" the care provided.
