I am looking for guidelines on dentists' billing for a CRNA who works for their office. I would normally say the CRNA would need to bill 00170, but I have an office pushing back, saying they should be able to bill the dental anesthesia codes under the dentist for the work the CRNA is doing. Does anyone have any guidance on this?

Generally, the CRNA would bill the CPT code for anesthesia, not the dental code, as they are licensed to administer anesthesia regardless of the setting. In fact, many CRNAs subcontract to dentists and do their own billing to the health insurance....not the dental insurance. I would not bill this incident-to the dentist. Here's some guidance, although it's published on an Alabama site, the information is from the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
