The definition and description of 59812 for the treatment of incomplete abortion completed surgically is not defined by the use of suction.

The general description of this code is as follows:
A speculum is placed in the vagina. The cervix is exposed and cleansed with antiseptic solution. The anterior cervical lip is grasped with a tenaculum. A sound is then passed to determine the depth and angle of the uterus. The cervix is numbed and dilated by passing a series of metal rods of increasing diameter into the cervical canal. Alternatively, a laminaria tent may be inserted into the cervix 8-20 hours prior to the procedure. The laminaria absorbs water and swells, slowly dilating the cervical canal. A curette is then inserted through the cervix and the uterine wall is scraped or suctioned to remove the retained products of conception.
