Does anyone know if an IM doctor can bill for debridement (wound cleaning) along with an E/M visit? I thougt this was part of the E/M visit and I was not sure if surgeons where the only one who can bill for this type of procedure. If anyone has an answer or links to documentation it would appreciated.

Thank you

Debridement is Surgical procedure

Debridement is not the same as "wound cleaning." Debridement is the surgical removal of necrotic skin/tissue and involved the use of a scalpel or dermatome.

Is THAT what your physicians are doing and documenting?
