We received multiple denials for a claim from Community Health Choice. Denial consistently says the claim was denied due to procedure inappropriately coded. Visit was Inpatient hospital visit for a new patient so we used 99223. We changed the ICD 10 codes because there was a misunderstanding of the denial so we thought that was what the insurance wanted us to do. We eventually lowered the code to 99222 and it denied again. Considering we are still getting the same denial, do we need to change 99223 to 99233 even though the visit was a consult instead of a subsequent visit?
