Can anyone say how claims for dental restorations, extractions, and maxillofacial surgeries must be billed? ... Codes CDT codes/CPT codes - submission of claims CMS-1500/ADA Claims form. Electronics/Paper... Any info will be greatly appreciated!!!
 
I can't say how any billing is done for restorations but I do work for oral/maxillofacial surgeons so maybe I can help a little bit. Usually, if the patient has medical insurance, most companies prefer you to send CDT codes on a CMS-1500 form. Some even like for you to send x-rays and notes with the claim. You can send these electronically if your software is capable of putting dental codes on a medical form. If the patient has dental insurance, then you will of course use an ADA form to bill your charges. The reason for dental codes on a medical form is that the CPT code you use for most extractions is 41899 which is a very generic, unspecified code that really tells medical insurance companies nothing.
