does anyone know of a routine dental exam code or other generic dental exam code that i can use. the state medicaid payer requires us to bill dental services on a 1500 and requires a diagnosis. most of the visits are prophylactic cleanings and perhaps i am just overlooking the code but i cannot find a dx code.
 
You can try V72.2 dental exam but if the doctor actually says they have dental caries then you will want to add that diagnosis as well 521.00.
