Scenario:

A MFM/OB physician is called to the ER on a pregnant patient for evaluation.

How would I bill the charge? Should it be billed as an Out-patient Consult(99241-99245).Or a differnt CPT code..

Please elaborate if possible..

Thank you very much.

If the request meets the requirements of a consultation, then our OBs bill the consult code. However, when it's hospital- or ER-policy that an OB is called any time a pregnant patient presents, we bill the ER codes 99281-99285.

That's what I thought but, we have to go through Compliance Dept. etc..Just was not 100% sure and I was fighting with my VP on this issue.:)

Thanks
