Can anyone help with this? Can we charge an office visit on top of an global ob recheck. When patient comes in and already has Diabetes or becomes a Gestaional Diabetic while pregnant and the physician starts managing the patients Diabetes? example: 59425, 99213? Do I add the modifier 25?

gestational diabetes

Although a pregnant woman with diabetes does require more care from a physician than a normal pregnancy, I don't believe it is separately reimbursable but considered part of the ob package, as well as, best practice of medicine. At least my physicians do not charge extra for diabetic pregnant patients. I would be interested if any OB does and is it being paid?:)

Diabetes management

We do not charge for a separate E & M visit when the patient presents with diabetes/GDM. Our docs feel it is part of the global visit and do not charge extra. We do use the diabetes/GDM dx as a 2nd code to show high risk.
