If your dialysis patient (bill monthly MCP charges) is admitted to the hospital as observation status and the main diagnosis is "need for long term access" , would this be considered as under the MCP charge for the month or can this be separtely billed using appropiate outpatient E/M codes? Medicare says the services must not be incidental to the services furnished during a dialysis session necessitated by the renal condition.
