Is there a standard way of differentiating between Surgical Codes; Medicine Codes; and all other codes?

The type of service code tells whether it is Medical, Surgical, X-ray, Pathology, etc. The type of service codes are listed in Appendix 6 in your HCPCS, or you can find them in the IOM Claims Processing Manual on the CMS website.
