The physician I work for did a excision of a cyst on the abdomen and when the patient came for his follow up care the Dr. treated him for a Post OP Hematoma. I feel as though this is a complication from the surgery and should be considered part of the global period. My physician disagrees and states he should charge the patient for a office visit. How would you handle this?

Agree

I agree that if it is a post-op hematoma it is part of the global surgical package if the patient is in the global days. Are they? If so, it's not worth arguing the point. Insurance will deny the office visit global and it will be a write-off anyway. The EOB could be a teaching tool for your surgeon and everyone wins.
