I am trying to figure how to bill for a discharge day for a patient in the status of outpatient in bed. The patient was not admitted as an inpatient nor were observation services ordered............

If the patient is not admitted then there is no discharge (FYI if the stay was related to an outpatient surgery the E&M would be included in the surgical code). Otherwise, I believe an outpatient E&M would be indicated in this situation
