Hello everyone,

I am having difficulties with the following and am asking for input please.

We have a patient admitted to observation status for out patient Cath, we bill a discharge the day after because the date changed before the patient goes home. So we have a 93458 (26) and a 99217 for the discharge. What is the best place of service code to use? 23 for out patient ? I have had carriers kick it out.

in past experience with this our patients were considered "outpatient in a bed" this does not qualify for observation status so discharge the day after was not billable.
If your patient has a complication or other medical condition requiring admission to observation then you would be able to bill the discharge the next day. POS for observation is 22.
