does a provider have to see the inpatient the day of discharge or can the summary be done the day before with no visit the day of discharge? Thanks
 
You bill the discharge on the day of the face-to-face where the discharge work is done and documented. If they are visited by the provider the following day with no documentation, it's a social visit and a freebie.
