Patient came in for IUD insertion. Physician sounded uterus, but uterus was too small for IUD. Device has already been opened by physician. What can I bill?

Contact your IUD rep and they will probably replace it for you no charge. Ours does if this happens. If you cannot get the IUD replaced by the manufacturer, we bill insurance for it, because it was used during the visit, but add modifier 53 to the insertion code.
