Hi everyone!
I was wondering if anyone could answer this question! A patient was taken to the OR for a procedure, anesthesia was administered and the patient was intubated, however the provider discontinued the procedure at this point because the patient's platelet count was low. The patient was taken to PACU and recovered from anesthesia. They were given a transfusion. Later that day the were brought back to the OR and the procedure was performed.
For the facility, they plan to code the procedure code with a 74 modifier for the discontinued procedure. They will be billing the same code for the completed procedure the same day. Would this procedure need a modifier also? If so, would it be 59 or another modifier?
Any help on how to code this scenario would be greatly appreciated!
