Patient went to GI lab for an EGD and PEG tube placement. Patient was medicated by anesthesia dept. but then started to cough. They decided to delay the procedure until the next day. The Dr. had not even attempted to intubate the patient. Am I correct in saying that since the Dr. never even attempted, I cannot bill a discontinued? (for the Dr services)??
Thanks in advance for any help.

If the patient was prepped and in the room where the procedure was to be performed and then the procedure was discontinued, as long as there is documentation you can bill with a discontinued modifier 53 . You will also need a V64.x dx code as a secondary code for the reason to discontinue.
