Pt presented in the office with a large left sided pleual effusion. Pt already has a pleurex drain in place. Attempt to drain through the pleurex only yields very small amount of fluid. Provider attempts thoracentesis twice, in separate areas but both on the same left side, with only minimal fluid (20cc first time, 5cc second time) return each time before the catheter runs into resistance. How would you bill? Ordinarily the pleurex drain would be bill as a 32555-52, and a normal thoracentesis just a 32555, but with a drain and 2 taps on the same side...?
