Wiki Do insurance companies have to follow recommendations by the USPSTF?

I'm confused as to the role that the United States Preventive Services Task Force plays in regards to insurance and the ACA. Are recommendations made by the USPSTF suggestions or requirements? Is this something I should pay attention to and be aware of ?

The USPSTF makes recommendations that are not necessarily mandated to be followed by insurance companies. http://www.ahrq.gov/professionals/clinicians-providers/guidelines-recommendations/guide/index.html. However, the ACA mandates that certain preventative services must be covered in order for the insurance to qualify under the ACA and avoid the penalties for individuals. http://www.hhs.gov/healthcare/facts/factsheets/2010/07/preventive-services-list.html.

Thank you for clarifying it for me. One more question, does everyone have to follow the ACA? Or is it just those under the plans offered through Obamacare?
