Hi Everyone, I have all the info on critical care guidelines but the only thing I do not see is who can bill this out, could it be any MD? Do they need to be a hospitalist? Do they need special credentialing? Please see scenario below:

A surgeon I code for performed a whipple procedure, the patient has become critical complicated by a pancreatic leak and sepsis, the patient is in ICU in criticaland in a life threatening situation

Thank you for all your help in advance

Well I put my feelers out to a hospitalist and they stated that all you need is to follow the guidelines and any MD can perfomr this, FYI

Any provider can provide critical care in any setting. It is not based on location, instead of the urgent need of the provider to stabilize the patient to keep from organ failure or death. It is not exclusive to hospital, and intensive care is not synonymous with critical care. The provider has to be bedside giving that patient total and exclusive time.
