surgery for enterectomy of sm bowel resection-44125. Drainage of peritoneal abscess-49020. ACS coding will not allow the drainage of the abscess without modifier. Should I try the 59 or not bill the drainage. Only one incision made. Thanks
 
Per CCI edits under General Correct Coding Policies, "If a definitive surgical procedure requires access through deseased tissue (e.g. necrotic skin, abscess, hematoma, seroma) a separate service for this access (e.g. debridement, I&D) is not separately reportable.
